What the Cryptid license plate is

The West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles introduced a new license plate designed by West Virginia artist Jesse Corlis that depicts nine regional “cryptids,” including Mothman, the Flatwoods Monster (Braxie), Bigfoot, Sheepsquatch, Batboy, Veggie Man, a Webster County werewolf, Ogua, and the Grafton Monster.

The design places Braxie prominently with Mothman flying behind, Bigfoot on the right in a shadowy blue, and the other characters as smaller figures in a wooded blue background.

How and where to get it

The DMV says the plate will be available for sale at all West Virginia DMV offices beginning Monday, November 2, 2026.

The agency will share additional information and updates on the DMV’s YouTube and Facebook pages and the DMV website (dmv.wv.gov).

Who might appreciate this plate

People interested in West Virginia folklore, regional legends like Mothman and the Flatwoods Monster, and fans of Jesse Corlis’s artwork will find the plate relevant.
