XKCD and Fourier
Sorry about this.
Quick read
A short blog post discussing how the Gibbs phenomenon appears in Fourier series approximations, prompted by an XKCD comic. Someone interested in Fourier analysis or the comic would visit to see the observation that the ringing persists but concentrates at corners.
- Explains Gibbs phenomenon behavior with added Fourier terms
- Notes ringing does not diminish, only concentrates at discontinuities
- Connects the math observation back to the XKCD joke
